No Dice 129

And thus we close book 1.

While I was in the middle of the story (sometime around when I was writing the stuff with the gelatinous cube in the dwarf city.) I was already trying to think of how I was going to follow this up once I had completed the arc. I didn’t even know how I was going to finish it when I was trying to think of the next thing. Which is something I’ve always done, planning the next project before even finishing the one I’m on. It’s lead to a LOT of unfinished projects and even more that were never started. But, even thought I knew I’d have to come up with a followup, usually that got pushed aside because another strip was due in a few minutes.

So as the end came ever closer I had to think of something to do. I didn’t know what else I could do with these characters really. Their story had been told. But then I thought, why stick with these characters? Their story is done, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t more characters, more stories, in this universe that could be told. So that’s the road I went down.

Next week we will begin a new adventure with new characters. This doesn’t mean we won’t see Calias, Abby or Claudette ever again. We won’t see Darrius again for obvious reasons, but he’s happier where he’s at. Just right now is the time to explore other stories.

I thank you all for going on this journey with me and my characters and I hope you’ll go on the next one with us.

Nice story. It gives a satisfactory feeling to see it come to an end. Many (web)comics just go on and on from one plot to an other and you never get that feeling of wholeness (not that it’s a bad thing, but it has its downsides). So thanks for the story and I’m looking forward for what’s next! :)

Thank you, I’m glad you enjoy it. Hopefully you’ll enjoy the next story as well.

Yeah, thanks for an nice ending (not that I was looking forward to it, but as Glew says, sometimes its good with a story that don’t go on for 8 years of webcomic). Also in stories there keep the same 3-6 main characters who have been around for many years, you probably won’t see any of them disappearing or dying. When keeping your stories shorter, we as readers don’t know if the character will live to see the next update. Its kinda nice knowing that “Harry Potter”, or in this case Darrius, might die…

Absolutely loved book one… hate to see it end. My wife really enjoyed it, too, and she doesn’t care for D&D, fantasy, etc. Great job!

An ending. Brave to make an end like that in a webcomic…and well done. With the knowledge of genuine character deaths and disappearances now, this webcomic is going to just get more and more interesting.

However, I look forward to seeing these people again.

I hope you stick around and keep reading the other stories that pop into my head. And yes, we’ll be revisiting the Book 1 characters at some point :)
